Perspective China pesticide industry history of the big acquisitions

By March 25th, 9.33 million ha of wheat had been affected in 14 major wheat-growing areas of China, posted a 25% increase from the same period over last year. The total area vulnerable to pest and disease estimated to be 66.7million ha, consisting of 36 million ha from pests and 30.7 million ha from diseases.

Aphids are common in wheat-growing area of Huanghuai, Jianghuai and Northwest of China, increasing densities have been observed in Henan, Hebei, Shandong and Beijing, thus 16 million ha of infested area is forecasted. For wheat mites, 7.33 million ha of planted area will be affected as larger population has been found in Henan, Shandong and Shanxi. The area being damaged by wheat midge is expect to be 0.24 million ha and 0.56 million ha attacked by other pests.

2.67 million ha of the area will be affected by stripe rust, comparatively slight than last year. For the diseases of powdery mildew and wheat blight, the affected area will be 8 million ha and 8.67 million ha respectively.

The total planted area of wheat increased slightly than last year, however, most of the planted varieties were not resistant to the above disasters. What’s more serious is that single species has been concentrated in an area, which helped the outbreaks. Furthermore, less of snow and freeze in the wheat-growing regions during the winter has killed little pest. Rainfall and warm weather in spring season have favored the outbreaks as well.

The Ministry of Agriculture of China required that timely supervision and control should been commenced by the local plant protection stations and recommended measures to fight the pests and diseases. And set the plan of reducing the damages by 5%.
